WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Ready to bring your Sazón?
And just like our work, it’s a city that knows how to fight, and how to win.
Y otra cosa: it’s where it all began for us. Ten years ago, we rolled deep into the city for the very first Lánzate. 250 compas, 7 forums, 18 workshops, and one powerful weekend in December where we came together to ask big questions and lay the foundation for what would become Mijente, and discuss “our shared fate that’s up to us to shape.”
Now, diez años después, we’re returning to where it all began. As we celebrate a decade of building our political home, we’re gathering in Chicago to honor those roots, sharpen our vision, and co-create the next chapter of la lucha.
We know we’re up against a lot. The terrain is shifting, the stakes are high, and we don’t pretend to have all the answers. But we do have each other, and a belief that we can figure out what comes next when we do it together. No matter what comes next, we know it’s time to come together to share space, strategize, and re-commit to our vision of building a political home worthy of our gente, just like we did ten years ago.
Chicago has long been a beacon of resistance.
It’s a city built by immigrants, shaped by Black and Brown organizing, and known across the world for its unpologetic working-class power.
It’s a place where movements have risen, coalitions have fought back, and people have dared to imagine (and demand) something better. From the Haymarket affair and the birth of the modern labor movement, to the rise of the first Rainbow Coalition, to the community defense work led by Latinx and Chicanx organizers, Chicago has always been a city of bold vision.
The Importance of Building A Political Home:
In times like these, we need somewhere to land. Somewhere we can show up as we are, not check parts of our identity at the door, to be in community, and figure out what comes next– together. That’s what a political home is. It’s where we dream, strategize, disagree, laugh, and build. For us, Sazonblea is one of the spaces where we can come together and remember what we’re fighting for and who we’re doing it with. It’s where we’re seen, where we grow, and where we build toward something bigger than ourselves. It’s where we practice the world we’re fighting for.
Like Marisa Franco, our co-founder and national director said: “A political home promises the idea of a warm place to come in from the cold, a place where we can sit easy and leave anew, ready to keep striving for something better, for all of us.” That’s what we’re building, una casita politica where our people feel held, challenged, and ready to keep pushing forward towards el Buenvivir, juntes and on our own terms.
Why Sazonblea?
Sazonblea is Mijente’s asamblea con sazon: our biannual member convening that has been a space to gather, reflect, celebrate, and strategize. It’s where we connect across hubs, campaigns, and geographies to decide, juntes, what comes next. From the ideas behind our campaigns to the everyday grind of organizing and leading efforts on the ground, our membresía has always been the driving force behind our political casita.
This year, we’re gathering at a time that demands everything from us. The second Trump administration has doubled down and escalated their attacks on our gente– through immigration raids, rampant criminalization, increased censorship and surveillance, and the gutting of hard-fought organizing wins. And behind it all, the billionaire class is pulling the strings, buying policies and politicos that protect their wealth while our communities pay the price.
With Mijente celebrating a decade of organizing, building, and holding it down alongside our compas, this year’s Sazonblea is where we come together and set the trajectory for the next few years. It’s where we’re bringing our collective voice into focus and shaping the path forward, rooted in our principles of unity and the realities we’re fighting to change.

The Solidarity Fund will be open on a rolling basis until funds have been expended.
